The job

What a tour day actually looks like

Guiding at Mill Creek Park is part ride leader, part host, part safety net. Here's the shape of a shift, so nobody applies expecting something else.

🔧
Before the guests arrive
Pull the bikes for the booking, check tires, brakes, and battery charge, and stage helmets. Anything that isn't trail-ready gets flagged before it goes out, not after.
👋
Check-in & fitting
Greet the group, match riders to the right bike and seat height, confirm waivers, and run the safety and controls walkthrough. Guests arrive 15 minutes early for exactly this.
🚵
Leading the ride
Set a pace the slowest rider can hold, keep the group together at crossings and junctions, and know the park well enough to tell people what they're looking at. Mixed-ability groups are the norm.
🧰
When something goes sideways
Flat tire, a nervous first-timer, weather rolling in, a battery lower than it should be. You handle it calmly on the trail and call it in when it's beyond a trailside fix.
🔋
After the ride
Bikes back, batteries on charge, quick wipe-down and damage check, helmets sorted. The next group's experience is decided by how the last shift closed out.
📣
The part that isn't riding
Answering questions about the bikes, pointing people to rentals or the shop, and being the face of Cruise the Creek in the park. A lot of our bookings start with a good conversation on the trail.
The fit

What we look for

None of this is a checklist you have to clear perfectly. If you're strong on the people side, we can teach the rest.

You're good with people first
Half this job is making a nervous first-time rider feel safe. Patience beats bike knowledge every time.
You can ride and talk at once
Confident enough on an e-bike to lead a group, watch your riders, and narrate — not white-knuckling the bars.
You know the park, or you'll learn it fast
Mill Creek is 4,400 acres. Local knowledge is a real advantage, but we'll ride the routes with you until they're second nature.
You're reliable on a weekend
Tours run when people are off work. If Saturday mornings are sacred, this probably isn't the right fit — and that's fine, say so.
You keep a level head
Weather turns, chains drop, someone oversells their fitness. We want the person who solves it without making guests feel it.
You'd be proud of the fleet
Clean bikes, charged batteries, helmets that don't smell. The details are the job.
No experience guiding? Apply anyway.
Some of the best people on a trail have never worked a tour in their life. Tell us what you have done — coaching, teaching, serving, retail, camp counseling, group rides with friends — and we'll read it.
